Sometimes I take pride in being a "girl" in "boy's" hobbies. Things like STEM and the like. I have taken a few coding/IT classes, and I'm studying to be a pilot, a very much male-dominated field. There's this kind of smug satisfaction, "I'm a girl but I'm doing all of this boy stuff! Isn't that so quirky and cool and impressive of me?" Even typing out this entry gives me a sense of satisfaction, I'm a "girl who codes."
I feel like I'm defying gender norms, but then I think about all the progress that women have made in STEM, and how a lot of fields have women to thank for major discoveries. What does it matter that I'm a "woman" who does X, Y, or Z? More and more women are doing it anyway.
